Let's do some craft! Craft #1 - Bows and bowties

All children love craft! So the next couple of blogs will provide ideas on craft activities to keep your little ones busy. Since hair bows and bow ties are the latest craze right now, today we're going to look at a super easy way to make them. Although there are like a million bow tutorials on the Internet right now, this one is really easy - especially for those of us who aren't so 'craft-inclined'.
Best of all your little ones can help! So it keeps them occupied, it's something you can do together, and you're making something you can use after, and that they'll be proud to show off and tell their friends that they made themselves!

What you will need:
  • Scissors
  • Fabric
  • Glue gun
  • Hair clips

Step 1: Cut two pieces of fabric (don't worry if they're not that straight). The bigger piece can be about 7 inches long and 2.5 inches wide. The second piece can probably be about an inch wide and 3 inches long. It doesn't matter how long since it can be trimmed later on.

Step 2: Take the bigger piece, ensuring that the longer side is horizontal, then fold the top and bottom in to meet at the middle (see pic below), then glue them.

Step 3: Bring in the short edges to meet at the middle just like you did in the previous step, and glue them. Set it aside.

Step 4: Take your small piece and follow step two to make a thin rectangle.

Step 5: Take the bigger fabric and squeeze the middle together. You may also fold it as if you were making a paper fan, but for kids squeezing is much easier!

Step 6: Put a dab of glue on the back of the bow, then stick the thin rectangle piece to the front of the bow and wrap around till you reach back to where you began. Keep pinching the  bow throughout this step. Stick then cut any excess cloth.

Step 7: Open your clip and slide through the loop behind. You may also choose to stick the clip to the back of the bow.

TADA!!! And just like that you've got hair bows.

Alternatively, you may choose to stick elastic to the back of the bows and join the end with velcro strips to make bow-ties.
